SARA NAVARRO
OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a first-year on the
Majors' women's cross country team, has been selected the
SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week
for the week ending April 10, 2011.
Navarro, who hails from Tyler,
Texas, volunteered as a member of the Wellspring Program,
which requires members to serve approximately two hours at a
specific service site in the Jackson area. During her
involvement, Navarro volunteered at Project Midtown, an
after-school program for elementary and middle school children, and
at the Mississippi Children's Home as a recreational assistant.
She also helped the service sites decorate for special
occasions (e.g. dances for children).
Navarro was recently 'tapped' into the Phi
Eta Sigma honors society - a freshman honorary for outstanding
academic achievement among freshman. She has served as a student
worker in Millsaps' Admissions Office and was recently nominated to
become a Millsaps Ambassador for Prospective Students (MAPS). As a
member of MAPS, Navarro will assist all
campus visit programs, offer campus tours, work with admission
counselors, and continue to contact and house prospective
students.
Navarro is currently training to become a
Millsaps' Writing Center Tutor, where she will work with fellow
students to discuss and improve papers and ultimately to become
better writers. The freshman is also a member of the Millsaps'
Track & Field Team and the Catholic Student Association.
