TRINITY ENDS SCAC TENURE WITH 14TH-STRAIGHT PRESIDENTS' TROPHY TITLE

SUWANEE, Ga. -- Trinity University closed out its 36th and final year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in dominant fashion - winning the department's 14th straight and 25th overall Presidents' Trophy by a record margin to wrap up the 2024-25 academic year. Final Results

Trinity earned spring sport titles in baseball, women's golf, men's and women's tennis and women's track and field to boost its season total to nine team championships while running away with the league's all-sports trophy. Earlier in the year, the Tigers secured conference championships in both men's and women's soccer as well as volleyball in the fall and women's swimming and diving in the winter.

Trinity finishes with 282 total team championships in its 36-year tenure in the conference, almost 200 more team titles than the next closest program Rhodes College, who accumulated 86 championships from 1962 to 2012. The program's 25 all-sport titles are 15 more than the second-place program Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, who finished with 10 Presidents' Trophy titles over the span of the program's two different membership runs (1974-1989 and 1998-2006).

In the race for the 2024-25 Presidents' Trophy, Trinity finished with 855 points, 260-points clear of second-place University of St. Thomas who finished with 595 points. The 260-point margin is the largest in the 63-year history of the award as the Tigers broke the record they had set the previous year when they won the all-sports trophy by 210 points.

St. Thomas made history of its own, earning its highest-ever Presidents' Trophy finish in the school's sixth year as a conference member. The Celts earned spring sport titles in men's golf and softball to move from fourth to second in the team standings. St. Thomas also posted a team title in men's basketball during the winter season.

Southwestern University, also in its final season as a SCAC member, finished in third place, just five points short of St. Thomas with 590 points. The Pirates had a runner-up finish in women's tennis in the spring to go along with its second-place finish in volleyball from the fall.

After earning a share of the SCAC football title, McMurry University claimed its second conference championship of the 2024-25 academic year with its victory in men's track and field to finished fourth in the team all-sports standings with 547.5 points. The War Hawks were followed closely in the standings by Colorado College, who finished in fifth with 545 points. CC earned three SCAC titles during the 2024-25 academic year after sweeping both the men's and women's cross country championships in the fall and taking the program's first-ever men's swimming and diving conference title in the winter.

Texas Lutheran University, who picked up team titles in football and women's basketball during the 2024-25 academic year, finished in sixth with 520 points.

Rounding out the final Presidents' Trophy standings, Concordia University (Texas) was seventh with 402.5 points, Schreiner University finished eighth with 302.5 points, Austin College and University of the Ozarks finished tied for ninth with 252.5 points, Centenary College was 11th with 242.5 points and University of Dallas finished 12th with 240 points.

SCAC PRESIDENT'S TROPHY QUICK FACTS

The symbol of conference supremacy is the 300-pound railroad bell which was donated to the SCAC by the Norfolk and Western Railroad. This bell, the "Presidents' Trophy", is a rotating award and goes to the school with the best overall sports record for the year.

The bell has been a part of the conference since its inception in 1962. In fact, the first conference logo, when the league was known as the College Athletic Conference, has the image of the bell incorporated into it.

The Presidents' Trophy is displayed for one year on the campus of the school with the combined men's and women's athletics program that accumulates the highest points total in the all-sports race.

The system used for distributing Presidents' Trophy points awards those points based off an institution's finish at the conference championship event. Points are awarded from the bottom up in increments of five for each place, with a last place finish in any officially recognized conference sport worth five points. A member institution must declare and sponsor the sport as varsity status with the NCAA to participate and score in any conference championship.
