Sewanee: The University of the South
Jeff Heitzenrater is the head coach for the University of
the South men's and women's cross country and men's and women's
track and field teams. The 2007 cross-country season is his seventh
as head women's coach and his eighth as head men's coach. He has
also coached the men's track and field team for ten seasons and the
women's team for seven. Heitzenrater is in his 17th year with
the university, and worked the first seven years in the Office of
Admission.
A 1990 graduate of Duke University, the Durham, N.C. native was a
400 and 800 meter runner for the Blue Devils track team under coach
Al Buehler. He holds a USA Track & Field Level 2 Certification
in Endurance and Jumps and is a member of the U.S. Track &
Field Coaches Association and USA Track & Field. In the
summers, he works as the camp director for the Sewanee cross
country camp.
He and his wife, Kim, C'89, live in Sewanee with their sons,
Andrew, 10, and Larson, 6.
