JACKSON, Miss. - Senior quarterback Chris Graves of Millsaps College has been named one of 10 finalists by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame for the 2009 Cellular South Conerly Trophy, given annually to the state's top player at a four-year institution.

Trinity loses shootout heartbreaker to Lynchburg in NCAA Quarterfinals
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Trinity University Tiger women's soccer team came close to advancing to their third NCAA Division III Championship semifinal, but the Lynchburg Hornets advanced to their first-ever semifinal by winning a shootout 4-2 Sunday in the NCAA quarterfinals, after a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

REDLANDS, Calif. - Colorado College captured its first-ever regional title by coming from behind to defeat the University of La Verne in five sets on Saturday night. The Tigers trailed two sets to one and 7-3 in the fifth set, but used a 12-2 run to close out the set and post the 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9 victory.

SUWANEE, Ga. – DePauw University’s Sarah Riffle became the first player in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history to earn back-to-back Player of the Year awards as the senior forward was tabbed as SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year in exclusive voting by the league’s head field hockey coaches. The win was the 700th of Tiger head coach Julie Jenkins' illustrious career.

SCAC Commissioner selected to PRCC Athletics Hall of Fame
POPLARVILLE, Miss. - Dwayne Hanberry came to Pearl River Community College from Oak Grove High School in 1983 as 6-foot-4, 150 pound basketball player without much experience. By the time he left for Oglethorpe (Ga.) University in 1986, he stood 6-8, weighed 210 pounds, and was an all-state player for the Wildcats.

Oglethorpe’s Akin records milestone in victory over Piedmont
ATLANTA, Ga. – Oglethorpe University men’s soccer coach Jon Akin became the all-time leader in coaching victories in the school’s history on Tuesday night after topping Piedmont College, 3-2. Akin, who was named Oglethorpe’s head coach in 2003, won his 58th all-time contest to surpass former Stormy Petrel coach Bucky Reynolds.

First Female President Takes Lead at Austin College on July 1
SHERMAN, Texas - The oldest college in Texas makes history next week as Austin College welcomes Marjorie Hass as the first female president in the college’s 160-year history. On July 1, Dr. Hass becomes the 15th president of the private liberal arts college located north of Dallas.
