LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In conjunction with broadcast partner SportsGram, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, along with sponsoring partner HotelPlanner.com, will offer fans at the 2013 SCAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships and the 2013 Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament the opportunity to listen on site with the in-venue commentators in real time.
Utilizing a technology known as the Smart Bug Broadcast System -
an easy-to-use transmitter and patented receiver setup - fans will
be able to listen to the play-by-play broadcast in the arena
without delay in "real-time," keeping them in synch with the action
in the pool and on the court.
"We are excited to provide SCAC fans an opportunity to experience
this technology," said commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "I had a
chance to try the Smart Bug receiver at our men's soccer conference
tournament and it really does add to the experience of watching a
live event. I think people who purchase one and give it a listen
are going to like it."
Smart Bug technology was used for in-venue broadcasts as a part of
both the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver, British
Columbia. Fans there attending figure skating, curling, wheelchair
curling and sledge hockey had the opportunity to purchase radios
and listen to specially-produced in-venue broadcasts full of
insightful play-by-play and color commentary that was both
informing and entertaining.
Smart bugs will be available for purchase at both the SCAC
Swimming & Diving Championships (Feb. 13-16) and the SCAC
Basketball Tournament (Feb. 22-24) for $10 per unit.
