SCAC announces Spring 2009 Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll
SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) named a record 1,029 student-athletes to the 2009 SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. This year's total eclipsed last year's previous record of 948 student-athletes.

Oglethorpe's Sarisky selected in MLB Draft
ATLANTA, Ga. - Oglethorpe University sophomore pitcher Daniel Sarisky was selected today by Major League Baseball's Houston Astros in the 40th Round of the 2009 MLB draft.

Trinity's Bronson selected in MLB Draft
SAN ANTONIO, Texas Trinity University Tigers senior pitcher Evan Bronson of Midlothian, Va. (The Collegiate School), was drafted by the Washington Nationals Wednesday in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Millsaps' Murphy; Oglethorpe's Rizzo earn South Region Gold Gloves
APPLETON, Wisc. - Millsaps College senior shortstop Billy Murphy and Oglethorpe University sophomore thirdbaseman J.J. Rizzo were named 2009 South Region Rawlings Gold Glove award winners. They were the only Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selections to the regional gold glove teams.

Trinity's Claydon honored as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American
TOWSON, Md. - Trinity University senior infielder Jeff Claydon was selected as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Claydon was the lone Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference representative.

SCAC places 13 on ABCA All-Region teams
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed 13 student-athletes on the American Baseball Coaches Association all-region teams. Millsaps placed a league-high four players on the all-region teams followed closey by Birmingham-Southern, Rhodes and Trinity all with two selections each.

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Senior outfielder Hunter Owen of Millsaps College picked up his second national honor of the week as he was selected to the 2009 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America Team on Friday.

STERLING, Va. - Millsaps College sophomore Will Hawkins and senior teammate Hunter Owen were named to the 2009 D3baseball.com All-America teams. Hawkins, the SCAC Player-of-the-Year, was an honorable mention selection while Owen was named to the third-team as an outfielder.

MOLINE, Ill. -- Playing in an elimination game against 4th-seeded UW-Whitewater on Day 3 of the NCAA Central Regional from Swanson/Brunner Field, the 12th-ranked and 2nd-seeded Millsaps College Majors were defeated 10-4 to close their cinderella season at 34-10 overall.

MOLINE, Ill. - Millsaps split a pair of games on Saturday in a rain-lengthened Central Regional, knocking off Wisconsin-Whitewater 12-4 to advance in the Winner's Bracket before dropping a 12-5 decision to top-seeded Carthage College in the nightcap.

Late Five-Run UT-Tyler Rally Eliminates Hendrix from NCAA West Regional
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Hendrix College sophomore left-hander Jordan Suydam boasted a four-hit 3-0 shutout heading into the eighth inning of the Warriors second game of the 2009 NCAA Division III West Regional against University of Texas at Tyler on Friday at Roy Helser Field. However, the Patriots rallied for five runs in the eighth to post a 5-3 come-from-behind win, eliminating the Warriors from the tournament.

Hendrix falls 8-3 to Pomona-Pitzer in NCAA Regionals; Ward Picks up Career Hit #200
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Hendrix College out-hit Pomona-Pitzer 11-8, however, three defensive errors by the Warriors proved to be costly as the Sagehens put five unearned runs across the plate to hand Hendrix an 8-3 loss in game one of the 2009 NCAA Division III West Regional on Thursday afternoon at Roy Helser Field.

Millsaps Holds Off Wartburg 5-3 in NCAA Regional Opener
MOLINE, Ill. The 2nd-seeded Millsaps College Majors showed little rust from a 20-day layoff, scoring three runs in their opening at-bat and rallying behind its defense to hold on for a 5-3 win in the Central Regional over 5th-seeded Wartburg College.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time since 2006, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed two teams in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship field of 54 teams. Hendrix College, which won the league's automatic bid, is the sixth seed in the West Regional. Millsaps College, which was ranked #1 earlier in the season, earned an at large bid and is the second seed in the Central Regional.

DePauw's Matt Walker Serves as Honorary Starter for Indy 500 Practice
GREENCASTLE, Ind. Matt Walker, head football and baseball coach at DePauw and 1999 graduate of the University, served as the honorary starter of today's practice session for the Indianapolis 500. Walker waved the green flag to open practice at noon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after taking a pace car ride around the oval with three-time Indy 500 winner Johnny Rutherford.

JACKSON, Miss. - Hendrix First-year pitcher Caleb Schallawitz held a powerful Trinity offense to one run on only three hits and struck out two in an 11-1 seven inning victory that gave the Hendrix College Warriors its first ever SCAC baseball championship and the school's first men's SCAC championship in any sport. The Warriors went through the tournament undefeated and earn the SCAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

JACKSON, Miss. - Behind a gutsy complete game performance from senior pitcher Jake Jones, the Centre College Colonels upset fifth-ranked and #1 West seeded Millsaps College 4-2 to highlight the first day of the SCAC Championship. SUWANEE, Ga. - The final weekend of the regular season brought surprise and intrigue as the final spots in the SCAC Tournament were up for grabs. The Centre College Colonels became the first team to win a series from Birmingham-Southern College this season and earned the East's No. 3 seed. Meanwhile in the West, the Hendrix College Warriors took two of three from Southwestern University, to earn the West's No. 3 seed and advanced to the SCAC Tournament for the first time in 10 years.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Michael Murphy's 200th career hit highlighted Southwestern University's doubleheader split with Hendrix College on Sunday afternoon at Rockwell Field. Murphy became the 23rd player in SCAC history to reach this milestone since the SCAC started in 1992.

ATLANTA, Ga. - Senior Mason Mosby collected his 200th career hit with a solo homerun to left field in a 7-1 victory over Oglethorpe University yesterday. Mosby became the 22nd player in SCAC history to reach this milestone since the SCAC started in 1992.

Rhodes' Colby Mattheson and Trinity's Evan Bronson both threw complete game shutouts, both struck out 12 and both faced just five batters over the minimum in nine innings. Millsaps' Aaron Williams pitched a complete game and Oglethorpe's Mark Hoban struck out 14 over eight innings in a win over Arcadia.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior shortstop J.R. Bizzell of Rhodes College became just the 21st player in SCAC history to record 200 hits, picking up the milestone safety in Tuesday's 19-3 victory over Christian Brothers.

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting among the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's baseball coaches, Trinity University was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2009 SCAC baseball championship. The Tigers are coming off a 2008 season in which they went 35-15 and advanced to the NCAA Division III West Regional final.

Millsaps' Jim Page Earns Career Win #500
JACKSON, Miss. - Trailing 8-5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Millsaps rallied for seven unanswered runs over the final two innings to defeat LaGrange 12-8 in its season-opener and earn head coach Jim Page his 500th career victory.

Millsaps' Hunter Owen named to 2009 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American team
STERLING, Va. - Millsaps senior outfielder Hunter Owen was selected to the 2009 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American team for the second consecutive season. The Jackson, Miss. native led the Majors by batting at a .388 clip and hit a team-high 16 home runs all while driving in 50 runs in 2008.
