SUWANEE, Ga. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball student-athletes were named to the 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-West Region (Region 10) All-Defensive Team announced by the organization last week.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Southwestern University’s Jacob Tanner and Ben Feuer, along with Texas Lutheran University’s Aric Vasquez all earned ABCA/Rawlings Region 10 All-Defensive Team accolades. The trio becomes the first SCAC athletes to earn the honor since the All-Defensive team’s inception in 2023. The three SCAC honorees were the second most by any single conference in all of Region-10 to make the team.
Tanner, a senior third baseman from Houston, Texas was named to the All-Defensive team after he recorded a .981 fielding percentage with just two errors and was elected First Team All-Conference in the SCAC. Feuer, a native of Houston, Texas, finished out his freshman campaign with a .963 fielding percentage, assisting in thirteen double plays and earning All-SCAC Honorable mention. Both Tanner and Feuer led the Pirates to a 23-19 overall record and a trip to the SCAC Tournament. This year marked the third-straight year that Southwestern has won 20 or more games, the first such streak for the program since 2005.
Vasquez, a senior second baseman from San Antonio, Texas, has been an iron man with a dependable glove for the Bulldogs the past three seasons, finishing his career with a .976 fielding percentage while playing in 122 out of 128 games in the last three seasons. In 2024, Vasquez finished second on the team with 102 assists and was a part of 26 double plays. Texas Lutheran led the SCAC with 35 double plays as a team with Vasquez's playing a major factor defensively. Vasquez also recorded 102 putouts at second base, only making two errors in 206 total chances. The two errors are a career low since taking over as the Bulldogs everyday starter at second base in 2022. Vasquez concluded his career with just 13 errors in 543 total chances. Vasquez’s efforts helped the Bulldogs finish the year with a 25-17 overall record and a runner-up finish at the SCAC Tournament in May.
