MJ Metz, Trinity University, Hitter of the Week (Week 9)

MJ METZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior third baseman from San Diego, Calif., has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, April 4 through Sunday, April 10. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 9

Metz had an outstanding week as he led No. 21 Trinity to a 4-0 record that included a three-game SCAC weekend sweep of St. Thomas, and extended Trinity's winning streak to 10 games. Metz batted .500 (10-for-20) over the four games, collecting 11 RBI to go with two runs scored. He had three doubles, a triple, and two home runs among his 10 hits for the week. Metz did most of his damage this week in Saturday's DH against St. Thomas, going 7-for-11 (.636) with three doubles, two homers, and 10 RBI in the twinbill. This season, Metz is third on the team with a .352 batting average (37-for-105). He leads the Tigers with 35 runs scored and is second with 26 RBI this season. Metz also leads Trinity with 13 doubles and a .657 slugging percentage and is second on the team with five home runs. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior first baseman Preston Ludwick of Centenary had another big weekend at the plate last weekend, going 5-11 (.454) in a three-game series sweep at Dallas. Ludwick drove in two, scored five runs, hit one home run, and walked once. Ludwick posted his 18th multi-hit game of the season with a 3-4 performance in game one of the series, his sixth three-hit game of the season. Junior catcher Joseph DiCarlo of Schreiner continued his stay among the top hitters in the SCAC, going 4-for-11 last week with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBI in the Mountaineers series against Southwestern. Junior infielder Preston Witt of Southwestern hit .563 (9-for-16) with a 1.000 slugging percentage last week, driving in four runs with six runs scored and two home runs. Witt hit 7-for-10 in Saturday's doubleheader against Schreiner and posted a 1.167 slugging percentage in conference play. Junior catcher Holden Philippus of Texas Lutheran drove in six runs on a .538 average and stole four bases in the Bulldogs 4-0 week that included a sweep of Austin College.
