(From Sewanee's website)
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Field
Hockey Committee has announced today the field of 24 teams that
will compete in the 2008 NCAA Division III Field Hockey
Championships. Sewanee has earned a berth Tournament, according to
the NCAA. Sewanee's opening round match will be against Lynchburg
(17-5) in Lynchburg, Va. on Wednesday at 3:30 pm EST.
Sixteen teams will compete in eight first-round games Wednesday,
November 12. The eight first-round winners, along with the eight
teams that received a first-round bye, will compete at four campus
sites during second/third-round play, Saturday and Sunday, November
15 and 16. The winners of the four sites will advance to the
semifinals and finals Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, at
Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field on the campus of Ursinus College
in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
Sewanee claimed its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Title on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Centre in the championship
match. The victory marks eight straight wins for the Tigers. Other
highlights for the 2008 Tigers are Clarkie
Crawford's (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate) conference-leading 123
saves on the year and Lynn
Hancock's (Paris, Ky., Foxcroft) 16 goals - good to tie the
Sewanee single-season record and the top-scoring effort in the
league in 2008. The Tigers finish 2008 regular season at 14-6, the
best yearly record for Sewanee in a decade and only the third time
in Sewanee's 33-year field hockey history that the Tigers have won
14 games.
