Laura Deines, Rhodes College, Field Hockey (Defensive)

LAURA DEINES OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior sweeper from Kansas City Mo., has been selected as the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, September 8 through Sunday, September 14.

Deines leads a Lynx defense that has earned four shutouts in their six victories thus far this season.  

Deines controls the Lynx marking and directs the defensive unit that allowed only one goal on 25 shots this weekend. Her goal line defensive efforts have been incredible in 2008 as she is one of the team’s best at winning fouls and 1 against 1 elimination skills. 

Deines’ spectacular defensive efforts this weekend were essential in the Lynx victories over Sewanee and Transylvania. Both teams were extremely aggressive and hard hitting, and Deines was able to compose the defensive unit under pressure.
