SCAC/USA-South Men's Lacrosse Merger Off

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The previously announced merger of the five men's lacrosse-playing institutions from the USA-South Athletic Conference with those from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is off in an announcement made today by the conference office. The five – Ferrum College, Greensboro College, Huntingdon College, Methodist University and Piedmont College – had been scheduled to become affiliate members of the SCAC effective the 2013-14 academic year.

"Obviously, we are disappointed with this development," said SCAC commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "After additional review of the previously agreed upon championship hosting model, some of the USA-South schools were uncomfortable with the possible travel ramifications and a compromise solution could not be hammered out."

Currently, the SCAC has four core members who sponsor men's lacrosse: Centenary College of Louisiana, Colorado College, the University of Dallas and Southwestern University. The league will continue to monitor affiliate membership opportunities for the sport.

"We remain open to discussing affiliate membership with other interested institutions," said Hanberry. "In the interim, we will continue to recognize men's lacrosse as an official conference sport and we will continue to treat it in the same manner as we do our other 18 sports."
