SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The National Soccer
Coaches Association of America has once again bestowed a high honor
on Trinity University Tigers men’s head soccer Coach Paul
McGinlay.
Coach McGinlay has been selected as the Division III West
NSCAA/Mondo Regional Coach of the Year.
It marked the seventh time Coach McGinlay has been named a regional
coach of the year.
Coach McGinlay, who has completed 20 seasons at the helm of the
Tigers, has amassed an overall record of 337-60-23 (.830). He ranks
No. 2 in winning percentage and victories among active NCAA
Division III coaches, and is sixth in all divisions.
In 2003, Coach McGinlay led Trinity to a 24-0-0 record and the NCAA
Division III National Championship. It was the first NCAA title
– in any division – for a soccer team in the state of
Texas. The Tigers also were national runners-up in 2007.
Coach McGinlay has guided the Tigers to 14 Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference titles, and 14 appearances in the NCAA
playoffs, including 2010. For his efforts, Coach McGinlay was
elected SCAC Coach of the Year 12 times, this past season
included.
Trinity teams have produced 23 All-Americans during Coach
McGinlay’s tenure.
The Tigers completed the 2010 campaign with a 19-3-1 record, and an
11-0-0 SCAC mark.
Trinity, playing in its ninth NCAA Tournament in a row, opened the
postseason with a 3-1 victory over Pacific (Ore.) at the Trinity
Soccer Field. The Tigers advanced to the third round, 4-2 on
penalty kicks over Texas-Tyler, following a 0-0 tie after two
overtimes in a home game. Eventual finalist Lynchburg (Va.) upset
the top-ranked Tigers 2-0 in an NCAA third-round game at Delaware,
Ohio.
