INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Men's Soccer
Committee announced the field of 60 teams for the 2010 NCAA
Division III Men's Soccer Championship today, and SCAC champion
Trinity University was the only conference team to receive an
invitation into the field. Complete Bracket
Trinity (18-2), the nation's top-ranked team, opens play at home
against Pacific (Ore.) University (14-2-3). The Tigers are
making their ninth consecutive appearance in the national
tournament under head coach Paul McGinlay.
DePauw University (14-2-2), despite its No. 11 national
ranking (which does not factor into NCAA championships
selection) and having only lost to the current No. 1 (Trinity) and
No. 2 (Ohio Wesleyan) teams in the nation, did not receive one of
the 17 at-large berths. Not since 2000 has the SCAC been
represented in the National Tournamnet by more than just the AQ
when both DePauw and Trinity made the field.
Forty-one conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the
2010 championship. Two teams were selected from Pool B, which
consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are
members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for
automatic qualification. The final 17 berths were reserved for Pool
C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences
that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B
teams.
