SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head
coaches in the league, Max Frey of Trinity has been selected the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Tennis
Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year. In that same
balloting, Trinity’s Russell McMindes was voted Men’s
Coach-of-the-Year.
Frey, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., posted a 14-8
singles record (21-4 doubles) and beat two Division II players
during the season. In the fall, Frey advanced to the finals of the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Southwest
Region championship. He is the 13th overall Trinity player to be
named SCAC Player-of-the-Year and the fourth men's player in league
history to win the award in consecutive seasons.
For the first time in his career, Trinity’s McMindes has
been recognized by his peers as the SCAC Men’s Tennis
Coach-of-the-Year. McMindes’ 13th-ranked Tigers earned the
program’s 15th SCAC title after defeating 15th-ranked DePauw,
5-3, in the SCAC championship match. McMindes has compiled a 16-9
record in his first season at Trinity and led the Tigers to the
NCAA Tournament for the 17th since 1993.
