Six Teams, 23 Student-Athletes Earn ITA Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the 2021 All-Academic Teams and Scholar Athletes Wednesday and six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference programs and 23 student-athletes were recognized.

Schreiner University, Southwestern University and Trinity University were all recognized as All-Academic teams on both the men's and women's side.

The TU Tigers made up 17 of the 23 athletes honored, while the Mountaineers accounted for the final six.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2020 and spring 2021) and must be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and 3.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
