CONWAY, Ark. - Rhodes College turned back the
clock on Saturday - winning the program's first SCAC men's track
and field title since 1996 this afternoon on the campus of Hendrix
College.
From 1993-1996, the Lynx were the dominant men's track and field
program in the SCAC, but had not won a championship since the '96
title - that is - until today.
After a weekend filled with rain, lightning and three different
delays, Rhodes captured three individual titles and a win a relay
win in the 4x100 to total 162 points - 22 more points than
second-place DePauw University (140 points).
Andrew Maryott won the men's hammer throw, Greg Cook won the
javelin and Anson Purdy took first in the 400 meter hurdles.
Centre College finished third with 135 points and three-time
defending champion Trinity University was fourth with 102 points.
Millsaps College, in its first year of sponsoring the sport,
finished fifth with 65 points. The Majors were led by 2010 SCAC
Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Mike Galatas, who
totaled 32 points.
Rounding out the standings, Colorado College was sixth with 53
points, Sewanee was seventh with 47 points, Hendrix College was
eighth with 30 points, Southwestern University finished ninth with
22 points and Oglethorpe was 10th with 18 points.
