LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the
head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC),
the coaching staff at Trinity University was selected Men's Track
& Field Staff-of-the-Year. The Women's Track & Field
Staff-of-the-Year honor was shared by Trinity University and the
University of Dallas.
The Trinity University men’s staff, led by first-year head
coach Marcus Whitehead, was selected as SCAC Men’s Track and
Field Staff-of-the-Year. Behind 10 individual titles and a team
victory in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, Trinity’s men
defeated second-place Southwestern University by 136.5 points
– the largest margin of victory in SCAC championship meet
history – to earn the program its first track and field title
since 2009 and its eighth overall men’s title – the
most by any school in the SCAC era.
The Trinity University women’s staff, also led by Marcus
Whitehead, was named SCAC Women’s Track & Field
Co-Staff-of-the-Year. The Tiger women placed first in all 18
individual events and also won both relays in accumulating a
SCAC-record 368 points at the 2013 conference championship meet.
The team’s margin of victory (277) also set a new conference
meet record as Trinity won its first conference women's track title
since 2007 and eighth overall.
The University of Dallas’ women’s staff, led by head
coach Matt Buchhorn, also earned Co-Staff-of-the-Year honors. The
Crusaders finished in second place at this year’s conference
championship meet, equaling the school’s best-ever finish in
any sport since joining the conference prior to the 2011-12
academic year. The UD women placed second in the 4x100 relay and
recorded three individual All-SCAC performances en route to the
team’s runner-up finish.
