Wendy Gillet, Centenary College, Softball Offensive Player of the Week (Week 11)

WENDY GILLET OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a freshman first baseman from Orange, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Offensive Player of the Week for games played Monday, April 11th through Sunday, April 17th.

Gillet had her self quite the weekend, smashing a pair of home runs in the series to move in to a tie for the team lead and taking over the conference lead among freshman. Her eight hits for the weekend improved her average by 14 points on the weekend to .425, the third-best mark in the conference. She went 5-for-8 with seven RBI's and two runs scored on the series final day to help the Ladies finish .500 for the regular season and wrap up the fifth seed in the SCAC tournament. It is the first SCAC series win and Tournament berth for the Ladies in three seasons.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior catcher Paige McShan of Southwestern University hit .429 and slugged .929 against out of conference opponents last week. Sophomore shortstop Raquel Vara of Austin College had a strong weekend to close the season, batting .545 with a .583 on base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage. Freshman catcher Stephanie Cervantes of Dallas had a big week for the Crusaders, picking up four hits in five of the contests she played in. Senior first baseman Taylor Yancey of Texas Lutheran hit .500, drove in five and scored six runs to lead the Bulldogs to a four-game sweep of Trinity. Freshman outfielder Destinee Davis of Trinity led the Tigers with a .500 batting average against TLU.
