CASEY MARTIN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior second baseman from Pearland, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 14 through Sunday, March 20. SCAC Softball Release - Week 7
Martin was a constant presence on the base paths for the Bulldogs last week - maintaining a .500 batting average as the conference's current batting average leader, and .643 on-base percentage. Martin would walk seven times without striking out in 20 plate appearances, steal seven bases and drive in five runs over the course of seven games. She went 10-for-20 at the plate, with two doubles, scored nine runs and turned in a .600 slugging percentage for the week .
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year utility Alyssa Akers of Centenary posted a .571 average at the plate last week, going 4-for-7 as the Ladies swept a non-conference series against Miss. Univ. for Women. She scored once and drove in anther run to lead the Ladies offensively. Junior outfielder Malorie Solis of Schreiner went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles in the Mountaineers only contest last week. She also stole one base. First-year outfielder Erica Otto of Southwestern hit .750 in conference play over the weekend, including a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI, a double, and three runs scored in the Pirates’ two wins in Saturday's doubleheader against Trinity. For the week, Otto hit .429 with three RBI and three runs scored. First-year third basemen Jaelyn Simmons of St. Thomas continued her stellar season last week, hitting .533 at the plate with eight hits, four runs scored, two extra base hits and two RBI as the Celts split four non-conference road contests. First-year catcher/outfielder Abigail Miller of Trinity had a strong week at the plate last week for the Tigers. Miller went 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate with one run scored, three runs batted in, and one double. Miller's highlight game was the third game of the Southwestern series. The catcher went 3-for-4 with a run batted in to help the Tigers win 5-3.
