Colorado College's Auguste; Oglethorpe's Kulavic Named NCAA Division III State Farm Coaches' All-America Finalists

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced the
finalists for the 2009 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball
for NCAA Division III, and among the 42 finalists are Colorado
College's Melanie Auguste and Oglethorpe University's Katie
Kulavic. Complete

Auguste, the winner of the 2009 Jostens Award, was the first player
in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history to lead the
league in scoring (20.0 points per game) and assists (7.0). She
finished her career as the program's all-time leader with 612
assists and 243 steals. She also ranks No. 3 with 1,587 points and
102 three-point baskets, and is No. 4 with 827 rebounds. During the
regular season, the senior scored in double figures in 23 of 24
games and had 20+ points in 12 games and 30+ points in two more.
Auguste, who was a three-time SCAC Player-of-the-Week during the
2008-09 season, tallied 11 double-doubles and two triple
doubles.
Kulavic, just the second player in conference history to earn
All-SCAC First Team honors four times, became the league's all-time
leading scorer on Feb. 22 against Centre, surpassing Tori Huggins
of Hendrix with the 1,847th point of her career. Last season's SCAC
Player-of-the-Year, she also moved past 600 career
rebounds during last weekend's NCAA Tournament. Kulavic, who
was a two-time conference Player-of-the-Week this season, is
averaging 15.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals per
game while shooting 53.4% from the floor and 78.2% from the
free-throw line. With 1,937 career points, she is just 63 points
from becoming the first player in SCAC history - man or woman - to
reach 2,000 career points.
