Three SCAC Women's Basketball Players Earn D3Hoops.com All-Region Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed three women's basketball players on the D3hoops.com All-South Region team released Wednesday.

SCAC Women’s Player-of-the-Year, McKenzee Gertz of Colorado College earned First Team honors, while Reagan Chiaverini of Austin College and Hailey Coleman of Trinity both earned Second Team accolades.

Gertz, a senior guard from Fort Collins, Colo. finished among the league leaders in several statistical categories despite playing just eight league contests in a shortened season. In SCAC action, she finished fourth in points per game (13.9), fourth in free throw percentage (86.4), seventh in total points (111), eighth in rebounds per game (8.0), tied for ninth in three-point field goals made (14) and 10th in total field goals made (39), all while playing 34.6 minutes per night, tied for fifth. 

Gertz reached the 20-point plateau twice this season, recorded double figures in scoring in six of the Tigers’ eight games and registered one double-double. This season, Gertz has climbed the all-time SCAC scoring list, finishing her career 27th in league history with 1,361 points. She became just the 10th athlete in SCAC Women’s Basketball history to score at least 1,300 points and grab 700 (736) career rebounds. This marks Gertz’s second appearance on an All-South Region team, she was named to the Second Team in 2019-20.

Chiaverini, a First Team All-SCAC performer, ranked among the conference leaders in virtually every statistical category. She finished in the top 10 in the league in scoring, assists, rebounding, blocked shots, and free throw percentage. Chiaverini averaged 13.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.9 assist, and 1.2 blocks-per-game while shooting 42.6% from the floor (11th in the SCAC) and 82.0% from the free throw line.

This season the senior forward from Parker, Colo., posted three double-doubles and had a career game with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in the conference tournament quarterfinals on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Coleman, a junior center from Kansas City, Mo. was Trinity's low-post centerpiece as she collected seven double-digit scoring outputs including a career-high 21 points in a winning effort back on February 26th against Schreiner.

The 2019 SCAC Newcomer of the Year led the league with a 59.1 field goal percentage that would land near the top-ten across all of NCAA III competition. She also ranked in the top-ten in the SCAC in blocks (1.2 bpg), steals (1.4 spg) and offensive rebounds (2.1 off. rpg).

A First Team All-SCAC performer, Coleman earned All-SCAC Tournament Team honors on her way to guiding Trinity to its seventh conference championship – the most in league history.
