Texas Lutheran's Vega Falls in First Round of NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Texas Lutheran University senior Sofia Vega ended her season Thursday afternoon, falling in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championship.

At Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium, Vega fell in three sets to Kait Brogan of the University of Mary Washington (Va.).
 
Brogan won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. She won the final four games of the third set to advance to the championship's Round-of-16.
 
A three-time All-American and an Academic All-American, Vega ends her career with a school record 105 singles wins and a 105-19 overall singles mark. Her singles winning percentage of .846 is a new school record as well.
 
In 2015-16, Vega went 25-6 and claimed her third consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor.
 
Vega, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Corpus Christi, Texas, was named this week as the ITA West Region winner of the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.
 
Vega went 2-4 in her four trips to the NCAA DIII national tournament. She advanced to the round-of-16 in 2013 and 2015.
 
In her career, Vega has been ranked in the Top 10 for women's singles nationally, and she consistently has been ranked in the Top 25 nationally.
