Five SCAC Programs Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- In an announcement made Monday by the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), five SCAC programs earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022-2023 season.

Austin College, Colorado College, Southwestern University, University of St. Thomas and Trinity University were five of the 220 Division III women's programs nationwide to be honored for recording a minimum combined 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The five SCAC programs recognized are the most since 2014.

Austin College secured the award this year for the first time since 2013.

This is the 10th year in a row for Colorado College and the 11th time in the last 12 years the Tigers have earned team academic honors. CC, which was recognized for the 20th time since the award was first presented at the conclusion of the 1992-93 academic year, is tied for 14th all-time among all Division III programs.

Southwestern was recognized for the third-straight year and 13th time in program history. Additionally, the Pirates made the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll, which represents the top 20-percent of the team GPAs in each division.

St. Thomas has now earned academic honors for the fourth time in program history. The Celts have now been recognized three times in the last four seasons.

The Trinity Tigers posted its longest streak of four-straight seasons with the recognition in 2022-23. The Tigers now have now been recognized seven times in program history following its first honor during the 2008-09 academic year.
