SUWANEE, Ga. -- The SCAC office tonight announced the bracket for the 2022 Volleyball Tournament, which will be begin Friday, November 4 and will be hosted by Colorado College. Official Tournament Website | Bracket
Trinity (25-3; 16-0 SCAC), the second-ranked team in the nation, finished off the regular season with victories over St. Thomas (3-1) and Southwestern (3-2) on Saturday and Texas Lutheran (3-1) on Sunday to complete its second consecutive undefeated conference regular season and earn the top seed to next weekend's SCAC championship tournament.
Southwestern (16-10; 12-4) clinched the second seed, winning two of its last three matches with victories over Colorado College (3-0) and Schreiner (3-0) sandwiched around a tough, 3-2, loss to Trinity.
As the top two seeds, both Trinity and Southwestern earn byes into the semifinal round, which will be played later Friday afternoon/evening.
Both Colorado College (19-8 overall) and Texas Lutheran (24-9 overall) posted identical 11-5 conference marks this year and split their two matches this season with TLU winning 3-1 on Oct. 7 and CC returning the favor with a 3-1 victory on Saturday (Oct. 29). Colorado College earned the tiebreaker and the No. 3 seed by virtue of its better record against the highest seeded team. The Tigers went 1-1 against second-seeded Southwestern while TLU, which will be the No. 4 seed, was swept by the Pirates.
Rounding out the six-team field, Austin College (16-16; 8-8) earned the fifth seed and University of St. Thomas (20-10; 7-9) will be the sixth seed.
Quarterfinal round play begins on Friday with Texas Lutheran and Austin College scheduled for 10:30 am MT with Colorado College and St. Thomas following at 1 pm MT. The semifinals follow later in the afternoon as Trinity takes on the winner of TLU and Austin at 3:30 pm MT and Southwestern tangling with the CC/UST winner at 6 pm MT.
Saturday's championshp match begins at 11 am MT.
The winner of the SCAC Volleyball Tournament earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Championship, which begins the following weekend.
