Marguerite Spaethling of Colorado College, a junior middle blocker from Larkspur, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 17th to Sunday, September 23rd. Spaethling has now been awarded player of the week honors, either offensively or defensively, for the third time this season.
Spaethling averaged 1.07 blocks and 0.86 digs per set as Colorado College continued its unbeated streak into week four of the season. The junior led CC with a season-best seven block assists in the victory over Dallas. Spaethling collected 15 total blocks last week and leads the Tigers with 51 on the season
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Krystyn Pua of Dallas led the Crusaders with 70 digs, including 52 over the SCAC-opening weekend. Pua recorded a career-high 23 digs against Southwestern. Senior defenseive specialist Sarah Mullens led sixth-ranked Trinity with three 20+ dig performances at Illinois Wesleyan’s Holiday Inn Classic II Tournament. She averaged just over 5.0 digs/set last weekend, finishing with 22 digs against Rose-Hulman and 14 digs against Millikin. Texas Lutheran junior defensive specialist Jaci Chambers had 28 digs in a three-set loss to University of Chicago, and she recorded 20 digs in a loss to Rose-Hulman. In a four-set loss to Millikin, Chambers had 29 digs. Senior defensive specialist Brandi Campos of Southwestern averaged 4.25 digs-per-set with 85 digs in five total matches last week.
