BLAISE DUFRAIN
OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior
defender on the Crusaders men's soccer team, has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending November 27,
2011.
DuFrain, who hails from Manassas,
Va., is a well-rounded student-athlete who
applies his dedication of service to all aspects in his
life.
A four-year member of the men’s soccer team,
DuFrain has played in 58 games, appearing as a
defender and sparingly at goalkeeper. He is also the starting
net-minder for men’s lacrosse team, a program entering its
second year of existence. In the team’s inaugural season,
DuFrain collected 162 saves between the
pipes.
Beyond the white lines, DuFrain’s dedication
to service continues. He is a constant fixture around campus
events, serving his college community through volunteering for many
SPUD (Student Programming @ UD) events, such as TGIT (Thank God
It’s Thursday) and Battle of the Bands. In addition to SPUD,
DuFrain serves his campus community by volunteering for Charity
Week in both the Male Auction and as a Charity Week jailer, with
all money raised going to local charities.
DuFrain also serves his Catholic Community as a
member of Men’s Ministry Discussion and Prayer Group and as a
participant in Pro-Life activities with other University of Dallas
students. While studying abroad in spring 2010,
DuFrain was an Altar Server and Sacristan for
masses on the University of Dallas-Due Santi campus, serving his
fellow students, faculty and other Catholics. During that
semester, DuFrain was honored with the Rome Award as well as the
Italian Culture Award by the University of Dallas-Rome
campus.
DuFrain’s commitment to service extends to
his academic life. He is an active member of the Society of Physics
Students and of Sigma Pi Sigma (national physics group) as well as
the French and Italian Clubs. In addition,
DuFrain uses his gifts to help other students as a
volunteer for the Student Mentor Program.
