BEN OWENS OF
RHODES
COLLEGE, a junior midfielder/forward on
the Lynx men's soccer team, has been selected the SCAC
Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the
week ending December 4, 2011.
An important part of the Lynx men’s soccer program,
Owens demonstrates leadership through hard
work, dedication to his studies, the soccer program, and he is also
dedicated to serving in the community.
Owens volunteers as soccer coach at Casa Maria/Sabado
Gigante (Saturday school) for underprivileged Hispanic boys and
girls. He also volunteers at his church to help out when he can; in
the past, he helped put together Christmas programs, Christmas
events (e.g. Alpine village at Trinity Baptist- where they set up a
"Christmas experience"- Ben helps set up little shops for children
and their parents to visit and make crafts, see Santa, give out
candy etc.), Vacation Bible School, and a few other things.
Owens is also in the process of starting a
mentorship/after school tutoring program with Kinney. Majoring in
Business with plans for a minor in Economics, Owens currently owns
a GPA of 3.90.
