LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – ANNIE WISE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore on the Tiger women's basketball and tennis teams from Tusla, Oklahoma, has been honored as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning April 1.
The conference recognizes student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics and serve their campus and community. Wise is a multi-sport athlete who competes in women’s basketball and tennis, who still finds time to give back to her community both in San Antonio and her hometown of Tulsa.
Wise has given back in a variety of ways to children in her community through sports. Last summer, Wise worked at Racket and Health 91 Club and helped coach her sister, an eighth grader, and teammates in Junior TeamTennis. “I find a great joy […] in giving them confidence in their abilities to play the sport they love,” Wise said.
Wise has also volunteered at San Antonio’s Kinetic Kids, which encourages mobility and activities for children with special needs, and she has helps coach kids ages 13 and under in Trinity’s Smashers Kids Club, which offers “fun and free tennis lessons” on campus.
Wise also gives back with Trinity’s Spurs sorority at the Impeccable Pig, a clothing store in San Antonio. The Trinity students help promote its brand name and volunteer during store hours.The store contributes to non-profit organizations which embrace women’s empowerment.
In Tulsa, she teaches social skills to adults with disabilities at Pathways Adult Learning Center. Wise said Pathways “has allowed her to see the importance of what true service mindset looks like.”
Other activities have included volunteering at the Community Food Bank Eastern Oklahoma and serving as a tennis camp instructor at the U.S. Air Force (CO) Academy.
In addition her dedication to her teams, school work, and community, Wise finds time to pursue other passions, such as flying, and plans to obtain a pilot’s license this summer. Following her passion for aviation, Wise stated she would be honored to become a pilot in the Air Force, or fly commercially in the future.
“I have extreme respect for those who honor our country […] Pilots show leadership skills that allow them to to have a greater impact on others with a service attitude,” Wise said.
