BRYANNA DELGADO OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior guard on the women's basketball team from Port Lavaca, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 17.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

With more than half of her senior season still remaining, Delgado, a four-year letter-winner for the Bulldogs already has played in 83 total games. She has made 25 career starts, including all 11 contests this season.

“(Basketball at TLU) has been an experience like no other,” said Delgado. “The friends I have made they are like my second family, and I am definitely going to miss it next year. But I am taking it all in right now and working as hard as I can. I’m ready for a good conference (season).”

“It’s been fun to be one of Coach (Mel) Dixon’s players. He has taught me a lot the past four years, and I am grateful for him and Coach (Troy) Patterson and Coach (Krystal) Schneider as well.”

A psychology major at TLU, Delgado recently completed her senior experiment, which focused on taste habituation.

“We used facial recognition software, which is where you can read people’s faces, their macro- and micro-expressions,” said Delgado. “Basically we gave people citrus, and we videoed their face to see what their expressions would be. And then we put it into the facial recognition software, and we looked at what kind of faces they were making while they were tasting this liquid.”

“It was supposed to be that they would have a lot of disgust, that was one of our hypotheses. And we did see a lot of that, but we did see a lot of happy. I guess they liked it.”

Delgado also has been active with her basketball teammates in community service activities around the Seguin community.

“For basketball, we do (TLU days of service) HOT Dogs and Day of the Dogs, and we go to Eden Cross Apartments and do housework for the elderly,” said Delgado. “We do that every year, and that is super fun. We do that for the fall and the spring.”

Delgado is the daughter of Melissa and Chris Delgado. She has a sister, Stephanie, and a brother, Vincent.

Delgado will graduate this May with her bachelor’s degree.
