Volleyball Falls to No. 21 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball dropped a tough four-set match to No. 21 Trinity, 25-22, 18-25, 24-26, 21-25, Friday night at Calgaard Gymnasium in San Antonio.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led Texas Lutheran with 17 kills and 17 digs for her ninth double-double of the season, while Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) finished with 10 kills. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) had eight kills and a team-high five blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had 25 assists and 17 digs in addition to six kills for 14th double-double of the season while Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) tallied her eighth double-double with 21 assists and 14 digs. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville), who was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week, led the Bulldogs with 34 digs, one shy of her career-high, and added eight assists and three service aces.

The first set was tightly contested with neither team able to get a decisive advantage early on before the Bulldogs closed the set on a 5-2 run to win the set 25-22.

After taking a 7-4 lead to start the second set, the Tigers came alive for a 14-0 run that saw them take an 18-7 lead in the set before putting it away 25-18.

The third set was back-and-forth throughout with the teams battling to a 24-24 tie before the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 26-24 set win.

The fourth set saw the Tigers attempt to pull away from the Bulldogs early, but the Bulldogs would rally to bring the set to a 21-20 score. The Tigers were able to avoid a fifth set by pulling out a 25-21 win.

Texas Lutheran will turn its attention to No. 17 Southwestern as the Bulldogs travel to Georgetown to face the Pirates on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
