Women's Swimming Opens up Season Against Colorado College

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Swimming kicked off the 2024-2025 season on Saturday at home in Walzel Natatorium against conference opponent, Colorado College. The Pirates concluded the meet with a final score of 179-79 in favor of the Tigers. Southwestern had a total of four first place finishers and three runner-ups at the meet, with Elise Samples taking two of those Pirate wins. 

HIGHLIGHTS - First Place Finishers
  • 100 Yard Backstroke - Elise Samples won the event by 2.67 seconds with a time of 1:01.74 over Colorado College
  • 200 Yard Backstroke - Samples won her second backstroke event of the day putting up a time of 2:14.79 and winning by just over four seconds.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Jackie Vargas took first, clocking a time of 2:42.21 and beating the runner up by .41 seconds. 
  • 100 Yard Butterfly - Niva Maskey placed first (1:01.68) clipping a host of Tiger swimmers. 

NOTES
  • The Southwestern 200 Yard Medley team of Elise Samples, Jackie Vargas, Niva Maskey and Elizabeth Krajca took second with a time of 1:55.56
  • Maskey placed second in the 50 yard freestyle, scoring a time of 25.59, .42 second behind the first place finisher. 
  • The team of Samples, Maskey, Krajca and Mallory DeArmond finished runner up in the 200 yard Freestyle relay (1:43.99)

  • Southwestern will head to Houston, Texas to compete against the University of St. Thomas on Friday October 25th at 4:00 PM.
