RICHARDSON, Texas - #5 Southwestern took two wins to close the regular season, defeating #24 Hendrix 3-2 and UT Tyler 3-0.
Hendrix proved ready for the task of taking on a top five team, winning the first two sets 25-19, 25-22. The Pirates could only be held off so long as their offense ramped up to win sets three and four 25-23, 25-22 and force a fifth set.
Southwestern took an early lead in that final set and won 15-11 to take the match 3-2.
UT Tyler proved to be no match for the Pirates' strength as SU won 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 over the Patriots to close out the weekend.
The Pirates close the regular season with an impressive 29-3 overall record. They enter the SCAC tournament as the #2 seed and will face the winner of Colorado College/Texas Lutheran at 6pm on Friday in Shreveport, La.
COACH FLORA ON SATURDAY'S WINS
"Having a team rhythm that set the tone for a clean match was key tonight verses UT-Tyler. It was also a big sign of growth to have a better blocking match, which in turn helped us have a quality defensive match.
Nikki's 39 assists and her double digit digs shows why she does a fine job directing this team's offense. And having great defensive digs from Andie and Megan and others make it tough for our opponent's offense."
