Schornack, Goldsmith reach milestones

Junior setter Amy Schornack and sophomore libero Laura Goldsmith surpassed single-season milestones as Colorado College earned a spot in the championship match of the 2010 Marriott Colorado Springs Spike it Up Classic with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 victory over Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon.

Schornack had 28 assists to reach 1,000 in a single season for the second time, joining Larissa Enns (1998-01) as the only players to reach the milestone twice. Her current total of 1,007 ranks sixth on CC's single-season list, only 185 behind Enns' record of 1,192 set in 2001.

Goldsmith had a match-high 16 digs to get to 500 in a single season for the first time. She joined Aubrey Reed (2001-04) as the only players to reach that mark. Reed set the school record with 550 in 2003 and had 513 in 2004. Goldsmith has 510 with three regular-season matches and the postseason remaining.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Schmoker led the Tigers with nine kills, converting on 19 attacks without an error for a .474 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Haley Hamilton was almost as efficient, posting eight kills on 18 swings to hit .444.

Hamilton had three blocked shots and Schornack added eight digs for the CC defense that held the Wildcats to a .037 hitting percentage.

Everyone played for theTigers except senior All-American Emily Perkins and senior serving specialist Kate Weig.

Nicole Paradisa had seven kills to pace the JWU offense, while Marissa Headley had a team-high 10 digs.

Colorado College plays host to Occidental College in the tournament finale at 4 p.m. Saturday.
