
Gents Record Comeback 3-1 Win At Dallas
The Centenary men's soccer team registered an impressive 3-1 comeback victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders on Sunday afternoon in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the UD Soccer Facility.
Irving, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team registered an impressive 3-1 comeback victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders on Sunday afternoon in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the UD Soccer Facility.
The Gents (6-5-1, 2-3 SCAC) rebounded from a 4-2 loss at Austin College on Friday night to improve to 2-3 on the road this season. The Crusaders fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Dallas scored first in the 19th minute as Aidan Cady's unassisted goal made it 1-0 and the Crusaders held that lead at halftime. Centenary's offense, however, came alive in the second half as the Maroon and White found the net three times to record the road victory.
Sophomore D Hayden McConnell (Flower Mound, Texas) tied the match just seconds into the second half, scoring his first-career goal at the 45:49 mark with the assist from senior MF Hunter Booth (Harrodsburg, Ky.). Freshman F Nathan Uduojie (Houston, Texas) then put the Gents ahead 2-1 at the 62:16 mark with freshman MF Kevin Huskey Jr. (Dallas, Texas) assisting on the goal.
Senior MF Brennan Amato (Denham Springs, La.) scored a late goal for the Gents to make it 3-1 with 83:14 on the clock and was assisted by senior F Ron Masti (Houston, Texas).
The Gents finished with a 9-4 advantage in shots, the Crusaders had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, and the teams combined for seven fouls – five by Dallas and two by Centenary. Uduojie's goal was his team-leading fifth of the season and Amato scored his second this season and sixth of his career.
Centenary freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) made two saves in his 90 minutes and Dallas GK Jaxon Mast also went the distance and recorded a pair of saves.
The Gents return home next weekend to face Concordia University and McMurry University in a pair of SCAC matches at Atkins Field.
