SAN ANTONIO – McMurry Swimming and Diving placed fifth in the men's and sixth in the women's division at he Trinity University Tiger Invitational this weekend.
Caitlyn Sauer-Newell led the War Hawk women with 48 points and two school records, followed by
Maddy Rohrer with 22,
Leilani Washington with four,
Mia Mendez with two and
Anna Nielsen with one.
Elijah Trevino paced the men's team with 29 points, followed by
Wes Scalf with 27, including a school record,
Victor Zambrano,
Harrison Brown and
Alec Feldhousen with eight each, and
Simen Loevaas with one.
"Very excited and pleased with our team performances this weekend," said McMurry head coach
Mark Jedow. "We had several lifetime best and season best times this weekend. We also had three school records broken: Caitlin Sauer-Newell in the 200IM and 400 IM and
Wes Scalf in the 100 Breaststroke.
Trevino was second and fourth on the two days of one-meter diving with 275.95 and 148.85 points. He was fifth in three-meter diving.
Scalf was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 57.51 seconds for the school record. He also was 12
th in the 200 breaststroke at 2:14.05 and the 100 freestyle at 47.74. He was 15
th in the 50 freestyle at 21.94. He also joined Brown,
Caden Motheral and Zambrano on the 11
th place 200 medley at 1:39.07 and the 200 free relay, which placed 13
th at 1:29.90.
Brown, Motheral, Scalf and
Montgomery Cortez placed 12
th in the 400 free relay at 3:16.90.
Brown also was 11
th in the 100 freestyle at 49.06 and the 400 individual medley at 4:26.86. He was 15
th in the 200 IM at 2:05.50.
Feldhousen was 15
th in the 400 IM at 5:07.40 ad 11
th in the 1650 freestyle in 19:17.24.
Loevaas was 16
th in the 200 breaststroke at 2:26.54 and Zambrano placed 10
th in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.41 and 16
th in the 100 back at 55.72.
Sauer-Newell was third in the 1650 freestyle at 18:26.22, fifth in the 400 IM at 4:52.03 (school record), seventh in the 200 backstroke at 2:15.46, and 11
th in the 200 IM at 2:16.72 (school record). She also joined Washington,
Lorin Mow and Rohrer on the seventh-place 200 free relay in 1:43.57, the eighth-place 400 free relay in 3:47.28, the 11
th-place 200 medley relay in 1:55.39 and the 11
th-place 400 medley relay in 4:19.50.
Rohrer also scored with a 10
th place in the 200 free at 2:00.32, 11
th in the 100 free at 55.07, 12
th in the 50 free at 25.29 and 13
th in the 500 free at 5:26.18.
Washington was 13
th in the 100 backstroke at 1:03.20. Mendez was 15
th in the 1650 free at 22:38.78. Nielsen was 16
th in the 1650 freestyle in 24:27.15.
Trinity swept the competition with 1304.5 points on the women's side and 1179 for the men. McMurry's men finished ahead of St. Thomas, Austin College and the College of Idaho in the eight-team field while the women were better than Austin College, Division I UT-Rio Grande Valley and Incarnate Word, as well as St. Thomas and College of Idaho.
The War Hawks travel to Austin College on Dec. 7 for a SCAC dual, beginning at 1 p.m.
