Women's Soccer Drops Quarterfinal Match to UDallas

Women's Soccer Drops Quarterfinal Match to UDallas

The University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer team season came to an end after they dropped their quarterfinal match against UDallas, 2-1.

The start of the first half was a bit slow, as both teams struggled to find their groove. The Crusaders managed to find the back of the net at the 22nd minute, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Celts immediately answered back with a goal of their own as Desiree Lewis made a run into the final third, passing the ball to Haile Hernandez. Hernandez managed to lose her defender and rippled a shot just outside of the penalty area; the ball curled just enough to go into the upper left corner of the goal, allowing the Celts to knot things up in the 23rd minute. This was Hernandez's first goal of the season. The Celts ended the half with two saves and two shots on goal.

As the second half kicked off, the Celts had their first big opportunity of the half at the 54th minute when Hernandez fired a shot on goal, forcing UDallas goalkeeper to make the save. Not long after, Lozada made two huge back-to-back saves of her own to keep the game 1-1.  Both teams struggled offensively as they both battled to gain the advantage. Eventually, in the 71st minute the Crusaders managed to score and controlled the rest of the game to end the match 2-1.

This marks the end of the 2020-2021 season for UST Women's Soccer team.
