'Roo Softball Falls to Trinity
The Austin College softball team fell to visiting Trinity University 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Old Settlers Park, dropping the team to 3-20 overall and 0-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play for the year.
The Austin College softball team fell to visiting Trinity University 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Old Settlers Park, dropping the team to 3-20 overall and 0-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play for the year.
Trinity jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Lauren Mercado drove in Brooke Sanchez, but Austin College struck back in the bottom of the first when Jessica Baker doubled and then came home on a single by Sophia Hernandez.
However, Trinity would score six unanswered runs over the next five innings to push the margin to 7-1 and Austin College would be unable to answer. Three runs came home in the second, two in the fourth, and the final run crossed the plate in the sixth. Sanchez scored four runs in the game for the Tigers.
Sophia Hernandez took the loss, surrendering four runs in 2.0 innings of work but led the 'Roos offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
