Pirates stunned in 77-72 loss to Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas – It was a tale of two halves as the Pirates fell to Schreiner 77-72 Saturday evening.

Southwestern was lights out in the opening frame, shooting 52.9% from the floor and 50% from three point range to lead by 17 at the break, 48-31.

It was a different story in the second half as Schreiner went on a run to open the frame. Southwestern went seven minutes without scoring while the Mountaineers posted 17 points in the same time frame to cut SU's lead down to five, 55-50.

Back-to-back  threes by Luke Hicks and Ben Stiver seemed to get the Pirates back on track, but the Mountaineers got hot again and took the lead for the first time with 6:28 remaining.

After two ties and two lead changes Schreiner set themselves up for the win on the defensive end, holding Southwestern to three points in the final two minutes.

Chris Molina led offensively with 20 points on 6-11 shooting, 5-7 from three point range. Zach Whitlock added 17 and Ben Stiver 16 with a team-high 11 rebounds.

Southwestern (6-9, 1-3) remains at home to face Texas Lutheran (9-6, 3-1) on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 8 pm.
