GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Cross Country competed in the SCAC Championship in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, November 2nd. The Pirates brought home a 4th place finish out of 9 teams!
Coach Joe Sponsel said this post meet "We came into this meet not quite at 100% with a few nagging injuries or sickness, but the women's team showed how tough they are by powering through and posting their best finish in a very long time at the conference meet. Last year we were 5th out of 6 teams, and this year we were 4th out of 10. A fantastic improvement and shows the direction the women are taking the program. Their willingness to challenge themselves, learn new ways to train/race, and be intentional about growing closer as a team has really pushed them to their great collective performance this weekend. Everyone comes back next year and with the addition of some exciting freshmen, I'm super stoked to see how much further we can go.
I have to give props to Breanna Steele who was All-SCAC for the first time in her XC career and the first Pirate on the women's team in 5 years to be All-SCAC and only the 4th in the last decade. As great of a season as she has had so far, there's still room for growth and I'm excited to see that progress at Regionals and hopefully Nationals."
