#19 Trinity Women Earn Another Win Over Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 19th-ranked Tiger women's swimming & diving team made it back-to-back wins over Colorado College, earning a 125-99 victory on Saturday.

Trinity won eight events in today's action, sweeping both the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, and seeing four swimmers earn six individual gold medals as well. The Tigers had four runner-up finishes in addition to the eight wins, while also scoring eight more third-place finishes.

The relays were especially successful once again for the Tiger women, who took first and third in both events. The 400 medley relay team of sophomore Audrey Jacobson (Dallas, Texas / School for the Talent and Gifted), first-year Kyla Foxhoven (Austin, Texas / Westlake), and seniors Caroline Myers (Austin, Texas / Bowie) and Emma Hagan (Overland Park, Kan. / Olathe East) took the top spot in 4:05.09. The third-place team of sophomore Jules Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway), first-years Jenna Koh (Thomasville, N.C. / Ledford) and Allison Ortiz (Houston, Texas / Stratford), along with junior Elizabeth Molique (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Saguaro) finished in 4:14.26. Hagan and Foxhoven were joined by first-years Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) and Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy) to post a time of 3:40.80 to win the 400 free relay. Wiehrdt, Jacobson, Ortiz, and sophomore Kylee Hutchinson (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) were third with a time of 3:49.43 in the race.

Hagan and Foxhoven added individual gold medals to their two relay victories, while Benson was also one of Trinity's individual winners in today's meet. Hagan won the 200 butterfly in 2:14.00, while Foxhoven was the 100 free champion with a time of 54.16 seconds. Benson not only won the 200 free in 2:02.69, but was also the runner-up behind Foxhoven in the 100 free (54.92).

Sophomore Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird) was the top gold medalist for Trinity for the second straight day, winning all three of her individual events. She won the 400 individual medley in 4:42.16, then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.97. Burns also won the longest race of the day with a time of 5:29.98 in the 500 free, beating out fellow sophomore teammate Erica Peterson (Lantana, Texas / Guyer) who finished as the runner-up in 5:37.52.

In addition to her relay gold, Myers also picked up a second-place finish behind Hagan in the 200 fly (2:17.47), and a bronze medal for her performance in the 50 free (25.45) that was the top time for the Tigers. Jacobson also had a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.25 that led the Trinity team in the event. Carter and Koh added individual bronze to their relay finishes as well, earning third in the 200 free (2:04.31) and the 200 breast (2:32.56), respectively.

Junior diver Brooklyn Fuscone (Hoffman Estates, Ill. / Hoffman Estates) finished third in both the 1-meter (157.43) and 3-meter events (232.35) for the second consecutive day. Sophomore Bethany Mueller (Buda, Texas / Hays) rounded out Trinity's medalist with her third-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:20.05 on Saturday.

Coach Speak

"Today was another total team effort from the women," said Head Coach Cathleen Pruden. "We had some women get better from day one to day two, which was great to see. Now we can head into this stretch of training with a lot more information about the team, and with plenty to work on to keep us engaged."

Up Next

The Tiger women's will split up for their next competition as Trinity is set to compete in two different events on November 3-4. Trinity will participate in the D3 Shootout in Chicago, Illinois, and will also host the University of St. Thomas in a dual meet at Hixon Natatorium on the same days.
