SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team capped off its 2025 campaign in style, earning an 8-7 walk-off victory in game one of their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks before getting a dominant pitching performance from Trystan Mallory as he celebrated his Senior Day with a 9-1 complete game win. The 'Roos finish the season 15-24 overall and 10-21 in conference play.
The 'Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one as Desmond Squalls drove in the game's first run and Mason Woodhouse later scored on an error, and Ashton Cason brought home the final run of the frame with a sacrifice bunt to plate Squalls. It didn't take long for Ozarks to respond, however, pushing three runs across in the top of the second to even things up, and the Eagles took the lead with three more runs in the sixth to make it 6-3, starting with a solo home run from Joseph Coon.
Keaton High drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 6-4, and Asher Thompson ripped a two-run double in the seventh to even things up at six runs apiece. After Ozarks regained the lead at 7-6 in the top of the eighth, Thompson drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning to square things once again, and Woodhouse ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly that brought Isaac Villa home from third to make it 8-7.
Brant Stuber got the win in relief, pitching a scoreless ninth with one hit surrendered and a strikeout, while Squalls and Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa each had two hits to lead the 'Roos. Thompson finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Taber Childs and Coon both went 3-for-5 to pace the Eagles.
Ozarks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in game two, but that ended up being the only tally of the game for the Eagles as Austin College scored nine unanswered starting with a two-run double by Ayala-Hinojosa in the bottom of the third to put the 'Roos ahead 2-1. Villa came home on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 3-1, and in the sixth, Greg Smith singled to bring home Woodhouse, making it 4-1.
Austin College put the game out of reach with four runs in the seventh, as Tino Ramirez stole third and came home after the ball got away on the throw-down, and RayShawn Riley delivered a two-run double, later scoring on an RBI double from Scott Hosmer to make it 8-1. The final run came off of the bat of Ayala-Hinojosa in the eighth, as he brought Ashton Cason home with a sacrifice fly to make it a 9-1 final.
Mallory went the distance on the mound to earn the win, giving up one run on six hits with seven strikeouts, while Jeter Fulbright took the loss for Ozarks, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings. Villa, Ramirez, Hosmer, and Cason each went 2-for-4 to lead the 'Roos offensively, with Hosmer doubling twice while Ramirez had three stolen bases.
