Nunez Wins Individual Title as No. 19/16 Trinity Men Finish Sixth at Texas Cup

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior Daniel Nunez (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) shot an even-par 72 in Monday's round to tie for the top spot in the Texas Cup, winning the title in a playoff. The No. 19/16 Tiger team finished nine strokes behind team champion Concordia University (Texas) after shooting a two-day total of 612 in the tournament.

Trinity followed yesterday's team total of 304 with a 308 today. Tournament host No. 13/15 University of Texas-Dallas finished second, followed by No. 11/10 LeTourneau University in third place. The UT-Dallas "B" team climbed up to fourth place, while the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor edged Trinity by a single shot to claim fifth place.

Nunez carded five birdies on Monday and led the tournament with eight total over the 36-hole competition. He was also one of just seven players to record an eagle in the tournament, picking up his on the par-four 10th holes yesterday. Nunez was also one of five golfers named to the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) finished with a three-over score of 75 on Tuesday, moving up to a tie for 19th individually in the tournament with a two-day total of 153.

First-year Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) was one shot behind Mason in a tie for 25th with his total score of 154. He was Trinity's leader after his opening-round score of 74 in yesterday's action. Sandhu and Mason led the Tigers with 21 total pars during the tournament.

Junior Jack McKay (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) and senior Zac Bunder (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) rounded out Trinity's competitors this week, with McKay joining Nunez as one of the seven players to record an eagle. McKay got his eagle on the par-5 first hole.

Trinity will resume its schedule in two weeks at the West Region Invitational, hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4.
