Men's Basketball Defeats Austin College, 73-66

SHERMAN, Texas -- A balanced effort on both ends of the floor gave Texas Lutheran (5-12, 3-5 SCAC) a 73-66 win over Austin College (6-11, 1-7 SCAC) on Saturday at Hughey Gymnasium. Trey Blackmore (San Antonio/Cole) led the Bulldogs with 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Senior Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) tallied 15 points, six rebounds and two assists and senior Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a career-high six steals. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) recorded nine points, six rebounds, and five assists. Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) recorded a team-high nine rebounds in addition to seven points.

The first half saw Phillips score 10 of the Bulldogs 29 points but the Bulldogs would trail 32-29 heading into the locker room following a first half that saw neither team able to get a true advantage.

The Bulldogs offense would come alive in the second half scoring 44 points on 48.4 percent shooting led by 12 second half points from Trey Blackmore. Texas Lutheran started the second half with a 14-0 run and never looked back, leading the 'Roos by as many as 16 points in the second half. The 'Roos kept the game competitive late, shrinking the Bulldogs lead to three points with 51 seconds remaining. A pair of Blackmore free throws and a breakaway dunk would prove to be the exclamation point for the Bulldogs to earn the win and split of the conference road weekend.
