HOUSTON – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas opened the home portion of their 2019 schedule Sunday, falling 2-0 to former conference rival Houston–Victoria.
The visiting Jaguars put in the match-winning goal barely four minutes into the contest, and then added an insurance goal in the 51st minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Futch (SO/Katy, Texas) made five saves for the Celts. Her UHV counterpart Amanda Bautista stopped all three shots on goal she faced; all three shots of UST's shots on goal were off the foot of Katarina Maksimov (SR/Richmond, Texas).
The Jaguars outshot the Celts 14-6 during the match.
The two teams regularly faced each other as members of the NAIA and the Red River Athletic Conference. The Celts were part of the RRAC for their first five seasons in program history.
The Celts return to action Friday when they visit Denver, Colo., to face Johnson & Wales. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time (2 p.m. locally).
