Austin College Takes One of Two Against Southeastern
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team split its twinbill against NCAA Division II opponent Southeastern Oklahoma on Tuesday evening, picking up a 6-4 victory in game one before falling 11-4 in game two. The 'Roos are now 5-12 overall, including three victories in their last five games.

The 'Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings in game one, with those four runs coming on just two hits as Maddox Prentice and Tripp Thoms each drew walks with the bases full in the opening frame to make it 2-0, and Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa walked with the bases loaded in the second, followed by Jack Wilhelm driving in Ashton Cason with a fielder's choice.
The score remained 4-0 until the fourth, when Southeastern got on the scoreboard thanks to an error in the outfield, and the Storm pulled to within 4-3 in the fifth. Chase Keeton tied things up in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, but Austin College answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Isaac Villa scored on a squeeze bunt from Easton Clark for the go-ahead tally, and Clark later scored on an RBI single from RayShawn Riley to make it 6-4 and that's how things would end, as Trevor Bane closed the door on Southeastern in the top of the seventh for his first save of the season.
Desmond Squalls earned the win in relief, allowing one hit in 1.0 innings after relieving Asher Thompson, who surrendered four runs, two earned, on give hits with seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings of action. Riley went 2-for-3 to pace the 'Roos at the plate, while Keeton was 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead Southeastern.
In game two, Southeastern quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with both runs coming across being unearned after a pair of defensive miscues, and Ayala-Hinojosa got Austin College on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1. That was the score until the third, when the Storm erupted for nine runs, including six coming with two outs after an error kept the inning alive.
Carter Olson got the scoring started with a two-run homer for the Storm, and came back up in the same inning to launch a grand slam to left field to cap off the scoring and make it 11-1. Tino Ramirez got the 'Roos on the board again in the fifth, stealing third and then coming home on a throwing error to make it 11-2, and Ramirez drove in a run with a fielder's choice in the sixth to make it 11-3. Clark came home on a wild pitch to cut it to 11-4, but that's how things would end.
Zach Andrews took the loss for Austin College, giving up four runs, two earned, on three hits with four walks in 2.0 innings of work. Only three of Southeastern's 11 runs were earned in the contest. Ramirez went 2-for-3 to lead Austin College, while Olson went 2-for-3 with two homers and six RBI for the Storm. Austin College gets back into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend when they host the University of St. Thomas for a three-game series beginning with a 7:00 p.m. tilt on Friday at Baker Field.
