Texas Lutheran Comes Up Short Against Whittier to Conclude California Road Trip
ORANGE, CA –- Texas Lutheran came up short in the final game of their three-game California road trip, falling to Whittier 77-66 in a neutral site game at the Hutton Sports Center on the campus of Chapman University Saturday night.
Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill) led the Bulldogs with a season-high 18 points and six rebounds. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) finished with 10 points while leading the team with nine rebounds and five assists. Trey Blackmore (San Antonio/Cole) and Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) joined them in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
It was a back and forth first half that saw TLU take a one-point, 36-35, lead into the halftime break led by ten points from Edwards. Fouls and turnovers doomed the Bulldogs in the second half. The Poets would outscore the Bulldogs 42-30 in the second half, forcing 10 TLU turnovers. Texas Lutheran would outshoot Whittier in the second half but the Poets would go 15-of-19 from the free throw line in the second half while the Bulldogs only had five free throws total. The game would be tight throughout with the Poets largest lead coming at the end of the game.
The Bulldogs fall to 2-4 while Whittier improves to 2-1.
Texas Lutheran returns to Texas for a Tuesday night exhibition against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 26. Tip-off is set for 7 PM from the American Bank Center with the game being streamed on ESPN+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
