University of St. Thomas Men's Soccer downed Austin College in their final home game of the season, 5-1.
UST controlled the first half both offensively and defensively, denying Austin from having any look on goal. The Celts offense pressed the Roo's defensive line time and time again. Forward Ian Alvarez found the back of the net at the 38th minute putting the Celts up 1-0. At the 44th minute after a pass into the box from Jose Umana, Alvarez scored again earning himself a brace. The Celts went into halftime up 2-0 with five shots on goal.
The second half mirrored that of the first with the Celts controlling most of the game. With a slow-paced start as both teams tried to find their groove to score, Austin College managed to get one back at the 62nd minute making it 2-1. However, at the 69th forward Heiko Leinweber would sink a penalty kick to extend the Celts lead. That was the start of the Celts offensive outburst, that led to two additional goals at 79th minute by Omar Blanco and 84th minute by Dany Ramirez.
The Celts did not lose a single game at home this season, ending with a record of 3-0-1.
The Celts return to action on Saturday when they travel to face the Southwestern Pirates. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30PM.
