    Swimmers Get Strong Test at Tiger Invitational

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas -  The McMurry University swim teams took on a field of top-flight competition over the weekend, competing at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Trinity University.  Both squads placed sixth in their respective divisions.
     
    On the women's ledger, senior Robyn Remschel earned the War Hawks only race victory in the 100-yard backstroke.  Remschel slashed close to two seconds off of her previous season best with a time of 57.90 seconds.
     
    Remschel also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke. Remschel put up her best time of the season in the 200 backstroke, as well, touching at 2:05.35 minutes. She was also 15th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle (where she also had a season-best time of 25.25 seconds in the preliminaries). 
     
    Fellow senior Zandria Rodriguez was 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke, in her best time of the season at 1:14.44 minutes.
     
    Katie Gorka was 11th in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle, finishing at 20:15.77 minutes. In the 200 breaststroke, Monica Flores (2:43.31) and Kaylee Cook (2:51.72) were 12th and 14th place finishers, respectively.
     
    For McM's men, junior Jerick Pena had a good weekend for head coach Casey Pacheco, including crushing the school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a prelim time of 1:58.52 (the previous mark was 2:02.90) .  In the 100-yard backstroke, Pena was ninth overall with a season-best time of 53.75 seconds.  Pena also had his best times of the year in the 100 butterfly (53:31 in prelims), where he placed 16th, and eighth in the 200 backstroke. He also swam the 500 freestyle for the first time this season, placing 22nd in a clocking of 5:08.94 minutes.
     
    Austin Gombas was 34th in a crowded 50 freestyle (23.41) field. Sophomore Zakai Love was 20th in the 100 backstroke (1:05.82) and 14th in the 200 backstroke (2:24.50).
