Pirates Fall to McMurry In Abilene

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Pirates fell to 1-4 on the season after Saturday night's loss to the McMurry Warhawks at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene, Texas. Southwestern kept the game close for most of the first quarter until the Warhawks went on a run and led by a 23-12 margin at the end of the first. The Warhawks went on an explosive offensive run in the second quarter and limited the Pirate offense to just two points, leading the Warhawks to take a commanding 40-14 halftime lead. The Pirates came out of halftime scoring the most points of any quarter in the game with 18 in the third making the score 32-63 come the fourth. The McMurry lead would prove to be insurmountable and the Pirates women's basketball team lost the contest 44-76. 

The Pirates were led in points by Ellie Ward who had 17 on the night with five rebounds and going 50% from the field. Ward was followed by the only other Pirates double-digit scorer, Aniyah Burke, who had ten on the night. 

Women's basketball will travel on Monday to face the UT-Dallas Comets at 6:00 PM in Richardson, Texas.
