McMurry Runs Strong in Old Glory Gallop

GRAND PRAIRIE – McMurry had a strong day at the DBU Old Glory Gallop, competing against strong competition from across all divisions of college cross country.

The McM men placed 21st among 41 teams with 647 points and an average time of 27:00.8 on the eight-kilometer course. Division II power East Central won the meet with 37 points, edging Cal Poly Pomona.

The McMurry women's team placed 18th of 45 teams with 638 points and an average time of 19:39.8 on the five-kilometer trail. Rice won the women's team title with 31 points.

Gabriel Sanchez led the War Hawk men in 99th at 26:11, followed by Isaac Gonzales in 142nd at 26:54. Rogelio Ramirez was 153rd at 27:02, Jeremiah Rodriguez was 179th at 27:22 and Roman Perez rounded out the scoring at 27:35 in 197th place.

Patrick Esparza finished in 27:53 and Marcos Tellez finished in 28:33. Also for McMurry, Eduardo Garcia finished in 31:05 and Victor Leos in 31:09.

"The men's team was a mixed bag," said McMurry head coach Corey Koch. "Gabe and Roger ran well, but we need to close the gap from one to five. Roman was sick and we are missing a few runners, so I think I will be okay in a few weeks."

Savanna Danner paced the women's team in 19:00 in 79th place, followed by Chloe McLellan in 103rd at 19:13. Ashley Shea was 161st at 19:51, Katelyn Hernandez was 198th at 20:22 and Anna Dinaso finished out the scoring in 240th in 20:56.

Abigail Huffhines finished in 22:09 and Jocelyn Moreno came in at 22:29. Also for McMurry, Madison Soultanova finished in 23:43.

"The women had a great day," said Koch. "Madison had a 50-second personal record and Katelyn broke her PR by 40 seconds."

Next up for McMurry is Millsaps' Watson Collegiate Classic in Mississippi on Oct. 18.
